Background:

Rab 41 (Ras-related protein Rab-41) is a 222 amino acid protein that belongs to the small GTPase superfamily and the Rab family.Members of the Rab familyfunction asregulators ofmembrane trafficking. Theycycle between inactive GDP-bound and activated GTP-bound states,which iscontrolled by GTP hydrolysis-activating proteins(GAPs). Rab 41 can be activated bythe GAP protein RN-Tre.Localizing to the Golgicomplex, Rab 41 isinvolved in protein transport and participatesin GTP binding. Existing astwo alternativelyspliced isoforms, the gene that encodesthe Rab 41 proteinmapsto human chromosome Xq13.1. Chromosome X consists of about 153 million base pairs and nearly 1,000 genes. Color blindness, hemophilia, and Duchennemuscular dystrophy arewellknown X chromosome-linked conditionswhich affectmales more frequently asmalescarry a single X chromosome.
